hello! Over the next few days, I might post different self-written poems/essays here. These are for my portfolio...so if you can, please critique and give comments for me to improve ok? Thanks a lot :P whee!
Ok, this poem is about Racism...
The Race
The stage is set
Racers crouch low, awaiting the signal
White and Black team
Each to represent his World
Black in the first lane
"That's where they ought to be!"
White in the center
"Rightfully."
Minds focused; determined to win
Eyes roaring with rage
The stakes are high-too high to lose
Pulse pumping
Hearts beating
In sync
Double Double
Toil and Trouble...
3-2-1...GO!
Look!
A false start from the White!
Judges oblivious.
Off they go
White leading; Black lagging
One lap down, two to go
...Fire Burn and
Cauldron Bubble
How could it be?
Black's catching up
"He must not overtake"
"I must always be ahead"
A simple trip will slow him down
Buying time to shoot ahead
White slows down
On purpose.
HE catches up; full of hope
Equality within his grasp
Just a few more steps...
One trip
Sent flying
Falling...
Far behind now.
"The Black has fallen!"
"Serves him right."
Up on his feet
More determined than ever
"Must keep fighting; must survive"
Two laps down, one to go
Last lap finally
But down goes the White!
A gasp from the spectators
"Oh no!"
Sprain sustained
Detrimental, costly
Amidst the groaning, dread fills the air
The alarm sounds within
"The blacks will win"
Black
Catches
Up.
And slows down...
One arm around the shoulders
The other, supporting an arm
Black and White
Together as friends?
"Why help me?"
"I'm learning to be your friend"
The finishing line in sight
Once racers; now brothers
Winners hand in hand
Finishing together.
One race that taught them to be
One race.
The Human Race.
